Learn about us
You shouldn’t be embarrassed about a problem that the vast majority of people will experience at some point in their life. Despite what you may have heard, toenail fungus (onychomycosis) is not a problem that you have to live with.
Toenail Fungus Treatment
Toenail fungus is a stubborn issue. Many of our patients have shared with us that they have been told by other healthcare professionals, from dermatologists to other podiatrists, that there’s nothing that can be done. No doctor wants to offer their patients a treatment that is unlikely to be effective, because that would result in unhappy patients. If you’ve been told you have to “live with it” by other doctors, allow the Bay Area Fungal Nail Clinic to offer the solution you’ve been looking for.
How to Cure?
The most common cause of nail fungus in healthy adults is an infection by dermatophytes, which often begins from trauma to the nail. Many of our patients report that their condition began as a result of getting a pedicure. By allowing a pedicurist to push back the cuticles, or cut the nail too short, you are interfering with the natural barriers that help prevent infection. Trauma to the nail can also result from something as simple as wearing tight shoes, which causes rubbing of the nails, or repetitive microtrauma. Other causes include severe athlete’s foot, diabetes, poor circulation, or a compromised immune system. Keeping your feet in shoes all day creates a dark, moist environment, only making the problem worse, but often can’t be avoided.
How can we Help?
The challenge with treatment is that the at-home remedies, like tea tree oil, and over-the-counter offerings at your local pharmacy, are only effective in treating the most mild cases of infection. By the time you’ve noticed the brittle, discolored nail(s), it has already progressed beyond the point where these are viable solutions, and therefore requires a more targeted, effective treatment plan. This is where the Bay Area Fungal Nail Clinic can help.
